Dr Seshadri Ramkumar, associate professor, Institute of Environmental and Human Health, Texas Tech University, has been honoured as Scientist of the Year, 2009, by the Lubbock Chapter of Achievement Rewards for College Scientists."Normally, very senior scientists who have reached national prominence get the honour," Ramkumar said. "This time, they were gracious to recognise me for my successful result using the nonwoven wipe and its technology transfer."

Gopinath would replace Geoffrey Okamoto who plans to leave the International Monetary Fund early next year, Kristalina Georgieva, IMF's managing director announced on Thursday. Gopinath, who was scheduled to return to her academic position at Harvard University in January 2022, has decided to stay, she said. Gopinath, 49, has served as the first female chief economist of the Washington-based global lender for three years.

The Centre is unlikely to announce an agreement over payment mechanism with Russia until a ceasefire is declared in the Ukraine war, said people in the know. An inter-ministerial group headed by the finance ministry has been meeting regularly for over a month to analyse and discuss payment mechanisms that can work under the current circumstances and ensure the trade between India and Russia is not disrupted.
